Teluk Ketapang Beach. February 27, 2009

Today I went as early as 7am to Teluk Ketapang Beach, only 8 minutes driving from my house at Banggul Air Lilih, Batu Enam. Went I reach there almost all area along the Teluk Ketapang Beach was already occupied, I manage to get my spot in front of the wakaf. today the tide should be full at 9:30am so I got two and the half hour to fish for GELAMA. My bait is only a small prawn. Within two and the half hour I manage to catch 36 Gelama with the different sizes.

Memancing Pantai ~ Surf Fishing Teluk Ketapang & Batu Rakit

The Surf Fishing at Teluk Ketapang & Batu Rakit Beach have started after a long break due to Monsoon, I went with my son Daniel and also Wan Zahari on Thursday February 19, 2009 for about 3 hours and we manages to catch almost 16 Gelama & Buluh and the next day, early in the morning I went to Batu Rakit Beach with Daniel to racce and at the end we cought a 2 kg Sting Ray. the good start for 2009 Beach Surf Casting.

New Location ~Lubuk Buaya ~ On the way to Felda Mengkawang Tersat

With the best scenery and beautiful location this place have a potential for casting, Myself & Jay, we went there to recce a new casting spot and to try casting for a few hours but it doesn't work out, may be this time, the tide & time is the factor or we have no luck on that day, anyway we will be back soon and hope can show our catch in next posting.

2009 Baramandi GONG BATU

The Good Sign of 2009

2009 have come out with the good sign for Geng Plekong Jorang. My trip this weekend with Bro Lokman & Bro San really have come out with a good catch's even though that we have to struggle until 3am. This place usually is the small stream near the river for us to catch a prawn as a bait but bro lokman decided to try and fish, at the same time we walk a long a river to catch the prawn for our bait.

Surprising... he caught a Baramandi (Siakap Putih) so we decided not to go anywhere else and continue fishing until 3am and the biggest cought that night is 1.2kg of Baramandi (Siakap Putih), beside Baramandi (Siakap putih) we so caught Mangrove Jack (Siakap Merah) and Cat Fish (Ikan Sembilang)

Fly Fishing Vs Lure Casting

This video is the best collections that I have and was shoot in Lake Kenyir during our trip on the 12th of December last year 2008, what that make me want to share here is the spirits of the anglers shown by both of them Jay the lure Caster & Hashim the pro fly fishermen. hope that 2009 will promise us the good moment in fishing and Geng P'lekong Jorang will always be there.

5 Hours for 20's Baramandi (Siakap Putih)

Amazing!!!! within 5 hours we managed to catch 20's Baramandi at Penkalang Gelap, 4 of us, the P'lekong Jorang Team but we have no choice to end up the fishing thrill that night when all of our bait is finish. this is our most fun fishing ever this year (2008) the ending is really a happy ending.

Ketam bunga di-jetty pelancung lama Merang

Hari ini merupakan minggu terakhir cuti sekolah bagi mereka semua, tapi kalau dah anak anak tu tetap juga anak anak yang tak pernah rehat, saya tunaikan juga hajat mereka untuk pergi p'lekong jorang di jetty lama Merang yang kini bagaikan "WHITE ELEPHANE" tapi tak dapat di gunakan.

Tempat ini suatu masa dulu sememangnya begitu terkenal kerana kejernihan airnya dan di sini juga lah dulu ada satu terumbu karang yang memang terkenal ia itu "Batu Mandi" yang kini telah bersemadi di bawah nya. ianya juga dulunya menjadi port memancing tenggiri dan ikan layaran (Sail Fish). Kini kaki kaki pancing masih lagi mencuba yang kekadang tu menjadi juga. trip kami kali ini hanya menaikan Ketam Bunga dan Danish berjaya menaikan Tetanda yang sebesar dua jari.

Surf Fishing
Surf fishing is the saltwater equivalent of fishing from the shore of a freshwater lake or the bank of a river. It is a method of fishing that provides access to a wide variety of fish species, often in close proximity to home. For many people, it is the most convenient or only a place to pursue their hobby, especially if they don’t own or have access to a boat.
Surf fishing is popular and widely practiced along the shore throughout the year, anglers will be found on beaches along the oceans,harbors and bays.

Why People Surf Fish
There are a number of reasons why people find surf fishing to be a good alternative to other types of fishing. One important reason is that, because many beaches are owned and managed by public government agencies, there is good public access to these areas. Another factor that brings anglers to the surf is the fact that there is no need to own a boat to catch fish. This saves money and time, particularly in the areas of boat maintenance and travel. Some fishermen do not like to fish from a boat, preferring to keep their feet on relatively solid ground.
Some anglers choose to surf from the shore because they feel there is greater social contact and camaraderie among fishermen who congregate on the beach and better opportunities for enjoying the surrounding sights and sounds of the surf. For many, it is a more peaceful fishing environment. Still others are simply attracted by the challenge presented by conditions that seems to give every advantage to the prey, rather than to the angler.

When People Surf Fish
Without a few exceptions, surf fishing is possible at any time, night or day, throughout the year, regardless of weather. However, the majority of surf fishing is conducted around sunrise and sunset from January to December If Monsoon permitted (December,January & February). While many experienced surf fishermen claim that overcast days are best, it is likely the greatest number of fishermen descend on the beaches on warm, sunny days, particularly weekends. Most knowledgeable surf anglers seek times just before high tide, especially when that occurs in the morning around dawn.

Species Available
While species availability varies from region to region and season to season, surf fishing usually gives anglers access to a large selection of fish. Casting from shore can bring in species ranging from more numerous small fish to large trophy fish.

Many surf fishermen go to the shore to catch small fish up to 5 or 10 pounds, perhaps just enough for a nice dinner.
More experienced surf anglers may try to increase the challenge by seeking larger sport fish, though most also provide good table fare. Species in the 10 to 100 pound.

Equipment and Casting
Generally, tackle selection for surf fishing is a matter of personal choice and fishing objectives. On any given beach, you are likely to find light, medium and heavy tackle. In some instances, the conditions of the surf will determine what kind of tackle is selected. The distance necessary to cast bait to productive areas will also influence the type of tackle chosen. Those casting long distances with heavy bait will usually use longer rods such as a 13-foot model. However, it is not uncommon for anglers to have success with 6 and 8-foot rods.
Because of wave action, it is usually necessary to use a heavy sinker up to 4 to 6 ounces or more to ensure that bait holds to the bottom. Wave action also determines line weight. Most commonly, anglers use 15- to 30-pound line, though the range can be quite large, especially on the heavier side.
In most surf fishing situations, the key to the success is casting distance. Therefore it is important that anglers learn appropriate casting techniques that allow one to cast far out to the water. It is not uncommon to need to cast from 50 to 150 yards. More experienced surf fishermen are capable of casting 250 yards or more.

The basic idea of most surfcasting is to cast a bait or lure as far out into the water as is necessary to reach the target fish from the shore. This may or may not require long casting distances. Basic surf fishing can be done with a fishing rod between 9 feet and 18 feet long, with an extended butt section, equipped with a suitably-sized spinning or conventional casting fishing reel. In addition to rod and reel, the surf fisherman needs terminal tackle and bait or lure. Terminal tackle is the equipment at the far end of the line: hooks, swivels, lines and leaders.

Dedicated surfcasters usually possess an array of terminal and other tackle, with fishing rods and reels of different lengths and actions, and lures and baits of different weights and capabilities. Depending on fishing conditions and the type of fish they are trying to catch, such surfcasters tailor bait and terminal tackle to rod and reel and the size and species of fish targeted. Reels and other equipment need to be constructed so they resist the corrosive and abrasive effects of salt and sand.
